Shading With Markers And Re-inkers…
Posted by: | CommentsWhat a busy weekend I had. Totally missed the Virtual Stamping Weekend on Splitcoast
One of the classes I held this weekend was for our Marker Club. Each time we get together I show them 4 new techniques to use with their new Many Marvelous Markers! One of the techniques I demonstrated was using re-inkers with the marker for an easy shading effect. This card is by far my favorite card ever!!
I don’t know about you, but I always have a hard time with shading. Getting the colors to blend correctly and placing the highlights where they belong. This technique made it a lot easier for me. If you try it PLEASE send me some pics, I really want to see them!! I didn’t make a tutorial, because it is a little difficult to color with a marker and take a picture at the same time!
Here’s how you do it:
- Use the color coach to choose a Dynamic Duo color combination. Use the re-inker for the dark color, and the marker for the light color.
- Squeeze one drop of ink into a color palette or a plastic container.
- Place the brush tip of the marker into the ink until it absorbs the desired amount of ink.
- When you color an image with the side of your marker, you will get two colors for a shaded affect.
- When you are done just color on a scrap piece of paper until the darker color is gone!
I did have to play around with it for a few minutes, but once I got the hang of it I was in love with the results!!!
Card Details: The card base is Pretty in Pink Card Stock. The stamp set used is “Embrace Life“. I LOVE this set!!! The main image is stamped with Black StazON on Whisper White Card Stock and the sentiment is Rose Red. Mellow Moss Taffeta Ribbon is tied around the Whisper White layer. This is then layer onto Mellow Moss, and Rose Red Card Stock. I attached the Rose Red layer to the base with dimensionals. (Beth used dimensionals to attach the Whisper White layer to the Mellow Moss layer instead and I liked that even more!)
The flowers were colored with a Pretty in Pink Stampin’ Write Marker and Rose Red re-inker using the technique explained above.
That’s it! I hope you like it. It looks like it took a really long time to make, but in reality it only takes about 5 minutes to make, if that!

Sketch Challenge SC159
Posted by: | CommentsI finally had a chance to finish my Challenge card! My son is finally taking a nap today!!! Yeah!
Wednesday’s Challenge on Splitcoast each week is a Card Sketch Challenge (SC159) follow the link to view the sketch and instructions on how to complete the challenge! It’s a lot of fun! Here is my card:
The second I saw this sketch I knew what I wanted to do with it, just didn’t have the time. But here it is! I hope you like it. I finally was able to play with the Ginger Blossom DSP and Tombow Mutli Adhesive!
The card base is Ruby Red (4 1/4″ x 11). The edges of the Ginger Blossom DSP is sponged with Ruby Red and layered on River Rock Card Stock. Groovy Guava Double-stitched Ribbon is tied around this layer and then it is adhered to the card base.
I stamped the mouse from the Happy Heart day stamp set (isn’t he so cute!) with Black StazOn, on Very Vanilla Card Stock. The mouse is colored with Sahara Sand, Ruby Red, and Blush Blossom Stampin’ Write Markers. The Heart was colored using a Blender Pen and Groovy Guava! Again, I sponged the outside of the Very Vanilla Card Stock with Ruby Red. This is layered on River Rock, and Ruby Red Card Stock. This main image was attached to the card base using Dimensionals.
I was also able to play with another one of my favorites….Dazzling Diamonds! I added a little drop of Tombow Multi Purpose Adhesive to the center of the flower, and sprinkled on the Dazzling Diamonds. I will admit, I was a little nervous at first that it wouldn’t look right because the adhesive came out white, but it dried clear and I LOVE IT!
I really love this card! I hope you do too! Let me know what you think….leave a comment below!
Also, just as a reminder…the Valentine Bundle Special, which includes the Happy Heart Day stamp set, is only available until January 31st. If you would like to purchase this Bundle, email me or call me (413-284-4315) to order. I can have it shipped straight to your door anywhere in the US!
I hope you have a chance to play along with a challenge this week! Happy Stamping!
More Time Well Spent
Posted by: | CommentsHI Everyone! Sorry I haven’t posted in a few.
Two days ago my son figured out how to climb out of his crib! So needless to say my usual time to stamp (nap time) has not been very productive! Monday it took 28 trips back into his room to put him back in bed…my husband counted! Yesterday it only took about 45 minutes for him to give in! We’ll see how today goes.
I missed the Monday Technique challenge on Splitcoast, but I am hoping to have time to complete the Card Sketch Challenge today. I hope to post that later today. I have some other updates and a surprise coming! So keep checking back over the next two days! In the meantime I am going to post another card I made last week with “Time Well Spent“
I can’t take full credit for designing this card. This is similar to a card found on the SU! demonstrator website. I did change a few things, like the ribbon and the eyelets. That is one of the perks of being a demonstrator…a website full of training and creative ideas! You don’t have to be the craftiest person on earth to become a demonstrator, because there is support every step of the way!
If you would like more information on becoming a demonstrator contact me and request a FREE information packet, and check out my demonstrator website. You can even sign up right online!
OK…Back to the card! The card base is Kraft Card Stock. The greeting is stamped with Basic Brown ink and the word “Friends” is highlighted using the VersaMarker. I used the anywhere hole punch and eyelet setter in the “Crafter’s Toolkit” to add So Saffron Eyelets to the center of each flower. Then Wild Wasabi Double-Stitched Ribbon is tied around the card front
The large flower is stamped with Basic Brown ink on Ruby Red Card Stock. The Flower is cut out and the edges are highlighted using the VersaMarker. 1/8″ holes are punched around the center of the large flower. I used the Scallop Circle Punch to punch a scalloped circle fromĀ So Saffron card stock and attached this behind the Ruby Red flower. Another Large flower is stamped with Basic Brown on So Saffron Card Stock. The center is punched out using the 3/4″ Circle Punch. The edges of the smaller flower are highlighted using the VersaMarker. A rhinestone brad is attached to the center and then it is attached to the large flower with dimensionals. The Large Flower is attached to the card with dimensionals. I hope you enjoyed this post!
A little update on my son…he still is not sleeping! I have changed his diaper twice, and put him back in bed 12 times! I guess I will be posting LATER on tonight. I have to go pick up my daughter from school now. Have a great afternoon!
Happy Stamping!
